A Diamond In The Rough: Aquaphonics

Aquaphonics is a true diamond in the rough in today's music scene. This eclectic Funk/Jazztronica quartet hailing from Stuart, FL was relatively unknown outside of Florida until recently playing a Phish NYE After-Party in Miami which was well attended and started to turn heads on a more national level. The members of Aquaphonics are as modest as they are talented, claiming to draw influence from each other and from within the band rather than to compare themselves to some of the greats. However upon listening to or attending a show one cannot help but draw comparisons. There are clearly moments where one can hear STS9, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Herring, Trey Anastasio Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Bill Evans, Art Neville, John Medeski, Dave Brubek, Billy Cobham, Neil Peart, Tony Williams, or George Porter Jr.
If you haven't heard them yet, be sure to catch a show soon, as they are just starting to really take off.

Aquaphonics is:

Alan Martinke- Keys, B3, Rhodes, Minimoog, and Vocals
Jim Dinsmore- Bass
Steve Elmore- Guitar and Vocals
Jessiah Watson- Drums (both electric and accoustic), Samples, and Sequences

Aquaphonics Live at AURA Music Festival on January 17, 2010.
